How 'bout if we just say that it's in the best interests of the University
of Nebraska to assist any student, happy or unhappy, in resolving their
differences with the University, regardless of whether they're a student
athelete, Regent's Scholar, or a nobody. Whether that's done by individual
professors in a student's major, an ombudsman, or whomever it may be,
someone needs to do it. Most businesses conduct exit interviews, don't
they? And many provide placement services. Why? Because they don't want
ex-employees going around telling everyone what a bad work experience they
had while they were there.
More specific to the circumstance - a few of the Raiders' had complained
that Callahan had completely stopped talking to them when their season was
going awry. Now we have complaints that the same type of thing may have
happened at Nebraska. If these things are true, it's not a good thing.
I don't care what you're doing, whether a University professor, a coach,
or a project manager in a business, when you stop talking to people who
are under you, bad things happ. If you're in the business of recruiting
and it gets out that you operate in such a fickle manner, you will have a
problem over the long term.
*If* Bill Callahan has this problem, he will not be successful.
