I think the fact that Lord didn't get drafted as an NFL QB is pretty
irrelevant, considering an NU QB hasn't gone on to play that position in the
NFL since well before I was born (Scott Frost's one option play in garbage
time with the Browns notwithstanding). And that includes a stable of great
NU QBs, including Turner Gill, Tommie Frazier, Scott Forst and Eric Crouch.
No one would question the talent of those 4.
I don't think NFL draft data is a great indicator of college-level talent
anyhow. It's similar to how winning the heisman trophy doesn't neccessarily
mean that player will go on to have a long and successful NFL career.
Historically, I think this was very true of Nebraska. We ran an offense
that just didn't translate all that well to the NFL. By no stretch of the
imagination does that mean that talented players could not go on to the next
level. However, many players that were very successful in NU's college
system just couldn't be as successful in the NFL.

But they *did* think enough of their talent to give them a chance on the
highest level. NFL Draft picks can be as subjective as recruiting rankings.
Look no farther than Ryan Leaf, the 2nd pick of the 1998 draft. 3 years
later, he fizzled out of theleague with a 14-36 touchdown to INT ratio.
Even once in a blue moon, Mr. Irrelevant (the very last pick in the NFL
draft) can have a somewhat lengthy NFL career.

I agree on this.
