'Whatever colored glasses' you're looking through? Chuck talks like Dave said
the officiating was one-sided. It WAS, but he didn't say that. Or at least he
didn't harp on it or offer it up as an excuse for the loss (that's right,
Nebraska won). I believe he said it was 'horrendous,' and gave an example (the
NBA 'continuation' call in the first half).
I think Dave's posted enough objective, critical, supportive, factual,
unbiased and informative posts regarding basketball to establish that the
glasses he’s wearing are ones that someone would possess who actually knows the
game and will share both positive and negative perspectives. The 'whatever
colored glasses' comment was a lame cop-out. Just what game WAS Chuck
watching???!!
Some more examples to back up Dave’s point; a point that he wasn't
overstating to begin with:
**First, why don't refs stuff their whistle and let 'em play? Let the teams'
play influence the outcome.
**Maric picks up his third and fourth fouls 26 seconds into the second half!!
A minute later, Turek picks up his third and fourth -- three seconds apart!!!
A ref has to be lookin' to call something when that happens. That was
rediculous.
**Two minutes into the second half, after the Maric and Turek fouls, the foul
status was Nebraska 6, Iowa State 1 ... two minutes into the half!!! Did you
see us being that overaggressive out there??
**Normally mild-mannered Barry Collier: I doubt if anyone will ever call him
a referee-baiter. Did Barry chose this one game to start looking at things
through red-colored glasses or perhaps was he justified in his reaction? This guy
is not a 'boy who cried wolf.'
**ISU shoots 38% for the game. Stinson and Blalock were a combined 7 for 27!!
I wouldn't mind asking Chuck if he thinks the refs cost Iowa State the game.
'Colored glasses?' I think not!!
**Don't be fooled by the fact that team fouls ended up tied at 25. Those
totals were skewed by ISU's playing catch-up and fouling late in the game.
**McCray wasn't hammered on the play where Barry got the T? Must have been
those glasses we were all watching through. We're not talking about tough
block/charge calls here. We're talking about a poorly officiated game. And about the
time someone says that the refs don't care who wins?? Of course not, but if
you tell me that a ref's ego never got in the way of him doing his job, I'd
tell you that you've not played or even watched much b-ball in your lifetime or
maybe you haven't known many refs in your lifetime. Especially Big XII b-ball.
As an underdog, you've got to be twice as good as the home team if you wantto
win on the road. And yesterday at least, we WERE twice as good as Iowa State.
Thanks for the drive-by post Chuck. This kind of nit-picking is why (in my
opinion) most of the people that post relevant, informed opinions leave the list
in a fast way.
