this discussion on character vs. winning frustrates me b/c they are, by and large, independent constructs.


It is entirely likely that some coaches possess great character, but cannot win (at least consistently enough to keep a job).   Just as true, there are some coaches with less than stellar character who can win games (football, basketball, baseball, etc).  

Ideally you'd like to have both.  That of course is the trick.  Which one is important important depends on a variety of factors.
