Great post! This was refreshing to read as my delete button has to be replaced for the moment! :)

I wondered how long this would take to swing to football. OK I'll play, only
because I enjoy beating my head on the wall.
First of all Andy, in a post awhile back criticizing Callahan & Cosgrove you
said, "Of course if the HC feels that his old college drinking buddy is
qualified to be DC, I certainly hope they all get fired sooner rather than
later." This same statement applies to Frank. It is my personal belief that
if Solich had not brought in Gillespie (against the advice of the rest of
the coaching staff) and placed him in charge of the extremely important area
of talent evaluation and recruiting, Frank would be coaching at Nebraska
today. And so according to your view, Frank got what he deserved.
Now the differences.
The difference between the programs. Football is the cash cow of the
athletic department. Basketball has never been a significant source of
revenue for the rest of the department. (It is preferred that it make a
profit.). At Duke, the general direction of the basketball team is extremely
more important than the football team. Thus you have to take notice when
your cash cow slips.
The difference between the coaches. Collier has made an effort to adjust and
adapt to the Big 12. He hired proven recruiters in Rankin and Spinelli. He
has changed recruiting methods and he has changed the type of player
Nebraska recruits. Thus the apparent talent level in the program is on the
upswing. As I have stated before, Solich repeatedly refused to adjust how he
recruited. The result is he was still bringing in a few "non division one"
recruits.
By the way under Nee the program was regressing. At the outset of Nee's
tenure he brought an enthusiasm and energy to Nebraska basketball that had
not been seen for a long time (if ever). However, in the middle of that
tenure he seemed to lose focus and become disinterested. By the end it
appeared he was just plain apathetic.
