I was looking at some old programs from the 1974 -
1976 era. I can easily recall sitting in the old
coliseum, the place was literally shaking from the
noise, and watching Jerry Fort swish jumper after
jumber with his unique behind the head motion.
To me, those were good days. Maybe it's the
nostalgia, but I remember the noise in the coliseum
was incredible, and the team from 71 - until 79 was
pretty darn good most of the time.
I've been out of the state since 79 so I can't relate
to the Danny Nee era as the glory days of NU
basketball. I know we've been to a few NCAA tourneys,
but I believe we are still yet to win our first NCAA
tournament game. Is that right?
I get a chuckle whenever someone on this list mentions
the NIT as a modicum of success for NU basketball.
The NCAA lets 64+1 participate in the tournement under
the present format. We are still yet to win a single
NCAA tournament game in the history of Nebraksa
basketball.
Until we can break into the top 65 and actually win a
game in the tournament, I will continue to foldlyu
remember Chuck Jura, Marvin Stewart, Bob Siegal, Brian
Banks, Carl McPipe, etc......
