It was an exciting dual. NU hadn't beaten OSU in Lincoln in about 80
years. NU won the matches it could and got a pin by B.J. Wright at 157.
I thought NU was going to win when in the next to last match (at 197)
B.J. Padden looked to have an escape, but which the official didn't
award. That escape would have tied the match and given NU an
insurmountable 6 point team score lead going into the last match.
(OSU would have had to pinned to tie and I believe even then the match
would have gone to NU with five wins to four for OSU.) The officiating
was not very good and seemed to go for OSU all night (even though I
heard that the ref was a former NU wrestler).
Anyway, in another officiating mistake, the ref and scorer didn't properly
apply the scoreing in one of the matches. Travis Pascoe's victory at
184 was scored 11-4, with three penalty points. But, the third penalty
should have been 2 points, which would have given Pascoe an 8 point
victory worth 4 team points (instead of 3). With one more team point,
the team score would have been tied at 18-18, but NU would get the
tie breaker with Wright's pin. NU objected, but not immediately, so
the ref called the NCAA. It was reported that they told him to put
an asterisk by the match, sign the card and leave the matter in the
hands of the NCAA. The NCAA is supposed to decide today.
