I'm fussier than most online forums about copyrights for a variety of
reasons, some of them personal.
Copyright is about many things, including proper attribution. Someone
posted Gary's comments AS THEIR OWN WRITING. That's plagiarism, which
would get someone thrown out of many colleges these days and has gotten
more than a few reporters fired.
But mostly it is about controlling WHEN and WHERE something is reproduced.
Gary has a RIGHT to control where his writing is reproduced, even if
online forums can make that challenging to monitor and nearly impossible to
enforce except by the honor system.
I appreciate Gary's posts, and whoever did this owes him (and me) an apology.
