I don't expect a bowl game next year. I'd be very cautious if any of you
expect one either. The streaks are gone, so it doesn't really matter
whether we're in contention for the Big 12 North next year or not. What's
important is that we begin to rebuild the program.
If you've been around for a while, you know that I could care less about
recruiting. Still couldn't. Everything sounds great, but if we all expect
these wonderful great athletes to show up and learn a complex offense by
next fall, you're bound for disappointment. That, my dear Husker friends,
will be your fault for setting false expectations, not Bill Callahan's or
Harrison Beck's (or whomever is supposed to be the next saviour of
Cornation).
I hope we all keep that in mind throughout spring and into fall. In the
meantime, baseball season is coming 'round the corner.
My baseball scouts tell me that the recruiting was good - that there is
increased competition, and that defense will be much improved. Sounds
trite, but success of the year will come down to whether or not pitching
comes around.
40 minutes 'til game time.
