At this point I don't honestly know who's right. The 'initial counter'
rule is so oddly written that maybe only the NCAA knows what it really
means.
Presumably the OWH is working off briefings from UNL's media office,
and presumably they got the skinny on it from UNL's NCAA Compliance
Officer, and that's who's SUPPOSED to get it right!!
I've never quite figured out what a 'greyshirt' is. It seems to me
that deferring an initial counter (until next year) is of little value
at this time, since that just lumps that person in with all the incoming
freshmen.
In any event, it sounds like it's a good group of players and presumably
ones that Bill Callahan thinks can fit into his style of football, and
in the case of the JC players and possibly others, do so quickly.
Let's hope so, at least. I really don't want to be right in my
pessimism about the 2005-06 season.
