The point is not when Smith made up his mind-likely it was
in the last week or so-but rather given what is known about
him and his family situation the most likely place for him
to go to school was close to home. He is the type of
individual who is going to be a positive influence on any
program with which he is involved and he will do it quietly
with no desire to call attention to himself.

One wonders why he waited so long to reveal his intentions.
If he was going OU, there was no reason to not say so as
soon as he had decided. My guess is he really didn't know
until very very recently.
