Good Evening All:
First off the men easily won tonight over Utah Valley State 91-57, while the ladies won on a last second shot 73-71 over Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
The men will host Kansas on Saturday in Lincoln the game tips off at 11:05 AM CT and will be seen nationally on ESPN. The women return home to face Oklahoma on Sunday at the Devaney Center, tip-off is at 2:05 PM.
Now for Kent Pavelka (I know Mike can't wait for the Kent controversy to get started on this list again), for someone who has not broadcast a Husker game in nearly 9 years he sounded pretty darn good. I know Kent was thrilled to do the game and that Paul Aaron asked him to do it as well.
As for what may happen down the road with Kent we'll just have to wait and see. I don't run Pinnacle but if I did, I would make a change (not this season but starting next season) and return Kent to handle the play by play on the basketball games and pair him up with Matt. Kent and Matt would be quite a pair filled with enthusiasm and Kent's delivery is smoother than Randy's as far as play by play goes. I have never met Randy but from what I hear from others he is a very nice person and I certainly have nothing against him.
I would then move Randy to the Pinnacle studio and let him host the pre, half and post game segments of the broadcast. The coach's post game show would have to originate from the game site with Kent and Matt, but Randy could do a post mortem and scoreboard show after the coach's show. The current set of people doing the halftime on the radio broadcasts sound like interns to me and they frequently leave a lot of "dead air" and have trouble with reading some of the copy and the various outcues that Pinnacle uses in their broadcast. Randy has very good basketball knowledge and handles interviews well and would do an excellent job with the segments I previously mentioned.
