[Husker] 2006 FB Schedule

When you have a dynasty such as Nebraska has had since Devaney it is tough
to get "great" teams to come to Nebraska in what I call "The Big Twelve"
preseason. We all remember "great" teams that were rated high that came into
Lincoln and their hinders handed to them on a tin platter thus ruining their
rating before the Conference season starts. Remember NU at UCLA in the 90s?
We did not want to go there and they killed us. Cripes I still remember
sitting on my deck, listening to that game and thinking about jumping off my
deck.
So I view it this way: spring practice, summer drills, fall practice and
then the Conference schedule.
It is tough to criticize a AD when you really understand no one wants to
come to Lincoln to play. Perhaps we should zero in and see who Miami,
Florida State, Okalahoma, Texas, Penn State and the likes play in
preseason. I have watched this and they are no different then NU.
The way I understand it is that most of the pre-conference games are
actually lined up 5 years in advance. If we have that many openings for 2006
then some teams must have bowed out after they committed. We are very well
aware of the fact that in the last 10 years there have been teams cancel
their trip to Lincoln at the last minute and (I believe) actually pay a fee
for ducking the game. When this happens what is the AD to do? Just not have
a game that Saturday? Lose the revenue? If so then everybody will be after
his head for losing money.
Boy I miss the RED CLAD LOON this year. Yoo-hoo do you hear me (us)?

Are you guys serious... Arkansas State, Troy? How ironic that the Sun Belt
conference teams are mentioned. Do their referees come to Lincoln, too?
Maybe they can team up with Steve Usecheck (sp)...
As a season ticket holder, it would be nice to see someone do something more
challenging with the schedule. I'd enjoy the close games, rather than the
blowouts...as long as the team gives 100% effort.
I'd think that potential recruits would be more interested in playing other
top athletes.

I read in the Lincoln Star that Arkansas St. and Troy where coming to
Lincoln next year. And the fact that both of these teams are in the Sun Belt
Conference.

The AD is responsible for scheduling. He may delegate those tasks to
delegates like the Asst. AD for Football Operations.
There are currently two openings in the 2006 schedule. Considering that our
department likes to schedule a "1 hard, 1 medium, and 1 easy" NC schedule,
with USC fitting in the "hard" slot, expect to fill the other slots with an
Illinois State-type and an Arkansas-type.
