[Husker] A Big One Gets Away

(Almost) Pure speculation on my part:

If my information is correct, this kid said he was going to come in and lead NU
to victory in LA next September. He sounds like he has been informed of his
divine ability and that he just needs a supporting cast to escort him to the
Downtown Athletic Club. Callahan's offense might require some reading along
the way. Beck sounded a bit like that coming to NU, but reality has revealed a
rather team-oriented and IMO somewhat humble kid ready to work hard to win the
starting slot. I also read that his dad wanted him to go to MU, but MU also
has a very good backup QB who he would have to compete with. It also sounds as
if the next Michael Vick is not concerned with the direction or standing of a
program, just a coach or program that will put him on the highest pedestal.
After all, he's 17 or 18 and has been told for at least the last two years that
he's God's gift to football. I'm sure that Callahan would love to get him, but
a QB like that might not be the best fit for a WCO that by design uses as many
weapons as possible. I would think that it would do better with a Jerry Rice
or Rod Smith than a Michael Vick.

The sad thing is that he could well be the next Vince Young, and IMO he'd do
better at any school other that the one bringing in a brand new coach and
system--including NU.

It sounded as if his father had been lobbying away from NU. I
hoped that his January enrollment would not leave time for a change
of mind. I don't think it is wise for high school athletes to be
wanting to play QB as a freshman. There is much to be said for
learning to see a bigger picture and at the other end, another
year of maturity doesn't hurt making the jump to the NFL.
