The other thing that Cook is going to work on is developing a libero--from
interviews I've read. The UW libero was a big part of the digs that Brad
described, and NU doesn't use one. I couldn't believe the ball was still in
play after NU swings; those palm digs were amazing. That and the large number
of hitting and especially serving errors by NU doomed them as much as UW's
front attackers' talent.
And, to comment on the telecast, IMO the camera angle and commentators weren't
just hard to watch and listen to, they were excruciating. The endzone shot
that has been mentioned gave me a headache and the playbyplay was monotonous
and uninterested. And that setter for UW who had the purple-painted brother.
After every play ESPN pans to that yo-yo. Even if the Huskers had been
winning, that was very unnecessary.

On the bright side, Washington had 5 seniors starting, who will be gone next
season while the Huskers only lose two.
Nebraska should have several advantages next year, including the number of
returning starters and the big-game experience which the announcers made such a
point of them lacking this year. Also, if they return to the finals, they
will be playing for a home crowd in the Qwest Center. Anyone think that
won't make a difference.
Nebraska was clearly nervous, tight, and out-of-synch for this match, and
the setting was awful at times. That is one area they really need to fix for
next season. They should be much better for the experience next year. They
just need to run the regular season like they did this year so they are at
home for whole tourney next year.
Hat's off to the Huskies though. I watched them sweep Hawaii twice in
Honolulu this year, and they go to the floor like nobody else I've seen all
season. That was another huge difference in their favor.
I'm calling the Huskers to win it all in 2006 right now!
GO BIG RED!!!
