UW is not all mouth. They are very good, and dispatched Tennessee with the same
ease that NU dispatched UCSC. They will match up well with the Huskers and it
will certainly be two proverbial heavyweights who have not seen the likes of
each other this year (thought the Huskers game at tx will be a good
preparation). The keys will be, as I see it:
1. NU's blocking: they will hit well against UW, and if they can shut down some
of the UW front line's quick, athletic attackers, they will be able to control
the games by building a lead and trading points to the end. Blocking will also
prevent runs by UW.
2. Hitting and serving errors: of course, but with the talent on the floor, one
or two unearned points could decide the match. The Huskers also had too many
net violations against UCSC, which was not a good team up front.
3. Jordan Larson: the only member of the Powerhouse that showed some nervousness
last night will be sharper on Saturday. If she digs well and gets one of her
lightning fast kills to fall, she will distract the defense from Pavin,
Houghtelling, Saleamua and Elmer. Her serves are also important. If she
consistently puts them in, they are so fast and low-trajectory that they could
disrupt the UW offense. This could be a game that shows what a great player she
is going to be for three more years--albeit as a compliment to the other big
guns.
4. Stalls: if she has a good night blocking, it could be worth 3-4 points per
game for the Huskers. With the quickness on the UW side of the court, she will
be tested.
Huskers that will decide the championship: the intensity and skill of the two
seniors, Elmer and Saleamua (could she help recruiting in Samoa?). They will
anchor the team and methinks they will be the difference that puts the Huskers
over the top.
Watching the work of Saleamua, Elmer (who could break an opponent's will just by
staring them down), Pavin and Houghtelling was amazing. They are in such a zone
with their power swings and tandem (sometimes 3) blocking, that you wonder how
UW will have a chance. On the other hand, NU was not facing a group with any
real size or athleticism to or contest Husker attacks.
I predict that the Huskers will win in 4 or 5 games and no game will be decided
by more than 3 points, though I would prefer a sweep.
If the Huskers lose, I'd say give Cook one more year to try and turn the program
around. Wait! Wait! Put down the torches! I'm kidding!!

Huskers dispatched Santa Clara with fashion 3 - zip.
Now they face mouthy Washington on Saturday in the finals. Hope Washington is
