I also found myself up watching the Washington-Tennessee game late
last night, despite having to get up very early today (before 5 am).
Someone hoped Washington was just mouthy. Sorry, what I saw wasn't
scary, but caused me to pause a bit. They may have reason to be a bit
mouthy, but then, maybe not reason enough. They are a confident team,
for sure.

I am NOT a volleyball expert, and I haven't watched a lot of games
this year, but these two teams (Huskers and Huskies) seem to run their
games differently. Washington seemed to use the serve to get their
opponents into uncomfortable positions on offense; Tennessee was off
balance much of last night. The Huskies tend to serve very hard and low
over the net, several tipping the net; lots of running jump serves from
the endline. This requires the setters to scramble just keep the ball
in play, which means your second hit is often a recovery. That slows
your ability to get it to the front line for the kill. In the third
game, Tennessee coach looked like he was going to have a coronary
because his team was on their heels, unable to get any rhythm - they
even let a set hit the floor because they were so out of synch. On the
other hand, the Huskies don't look as strong at the net - when
Tennessee got the ball to the front line, they had some success.

The Huskers on defense tend to set their defense at the net and
probably block better than anyone in the country. The offense seems
geared to moving the ball to the front line, to get the certain kills.
The Huskies, not as strong at the net, will not have an advantage over
the Huskers, but the Huskers will have to contend with the serve.
Anyone else have a chance to watch and have an idea how this will work?
It really looks like quite a match.

 Nick
