I'm not sure I agree with the term 'raiding' in this context. Until
the letters of intent can be signed (in February), all committments are
meaningless and unenforceable. Recruits can change their minds, coaches
have even been know to withdraw offers.
Yeah, there's kind of a "gentlemen's agreement" between coaches not to
go after those who have verbally committed elsewhere. But I could probably
dig up dozens of examples of coaches who have kept in contact with players
after they committed somewhere else, sometimes convincing them to switch.
As Samuel Goldwyn once noted, a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's
printed on.
