I'm not sure about something here- did Callahan tell Freeman that, or did Freeman tell Callahan that? Huge difference here. If the kid told Callahan that, great, it means he is a positive thinker who believes he will succeed at Nebraska. If Callahan told the kid he would start (which I don't believe for a second) at USC, then that is a whole other can of worms.

Whether or not Callahan has told him that he would
start the USC game is probably more urban legend than
anything else. Certainly when you look at the
contributions of the true freshmen this season and the
play of Zac Taylor this season makes it rather
unlikely that Freeman would start against USC. (Not
impossible, mind you. Just unlikely...) There were a
lot of rumors of similar stories with last years
recruiting class, and most of those didn't pan out.
