I heard something about a
thumb or hand injury to Maric in the Marquette game. Is this still an issue?
Has to be, Gerald. He DID jam a thumb or do something to his hand during
the game against Marquette. He was shaking it and it was bothering him
noticeably toward the end of that game. I didn't hear a thing prior to UAB and
haven't heard he or Collier mention a thing about it since; and I can appreciate
them not wanting to use it as an excuse. It would be a legitimate reason to
limit Maric down the stretch of the UAB game. I can't think of any other
reason why he wasn't in there ... I think he had only two fouls, three tops.
He's crucial to us. We cannot lose him for any significant amount of time due
to injury (or foul trouble, for that matter).
I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be hopping on the
bandwagon this year. Now do me a favor and go have a talk with McCray.
I think it's pretty impressive that NU has shown as much as they have this
year while getting relatively nothing from Joe McCray. I'd say he's been a
non-factor, except he has factored in. Lots of turnovers ... lots of missed
shots. I hope he can turn it around. NU needs him. It's been painful to
watch, to be honest with you. He knows he's struggling, but to give him some
credit, you didn't see him pouting against UAB. I think the "team" attitude is
there for NU. But they DO need Joe to step up.
I hope some people will be boarding the bandwagon this year. The crowds
have really been non-existant. Even with the loss to UAB (and that one still
hurts), I saw a lot of upside to the NU hoops team. Need to learn how to win
those close, last-possession-type-of-games.
