[Husker] Minnesota still angry

Ah yes, I remember the days Jon.
In our second year (1991) a columnist from the Minneapolis Star Tribune
interviewed me before the Nebraska-Minnesota game and wrote a story
about Minnesotans for Nebraska as an example of the avid Nebraska fan
base. We had just launched our Husker Hotline (651-HUS-KERS) as was
referenced in the article. At the time the hotline was a second line
into my home with an answering machine used to leave a weekly message
such as where we would meet to watch the Huskers that week.
It didn't take long to turn off the ringer on the line as calls streamed
in at all hours of the day and night with hundreds of obnoxious and
unmentionable messages from Gopher 'fans' still angry about the Huskers
84-13 win in 1983. The messages continued for several years after that.
In the year prior (1990) Nebraska fans filled about half of the seats in
the Metrodome and caused so much noise on one occasion that the Gophers
did not get a play off on their own field.
On another occasion in the mid '90s I was with my wife and young child
at an open house when I was wearing my Nebraska jacket and minding my
own business. A man who appeared to be in his 50's and who looked
respectable enough got in my face and started loudly talking smack about
the Huskers.
Easy to laugh about it now... :)

Stephen Bruce is on this list. He started the Minnesotans for Nebraska
alumni group. Ask him to tell the story the about what happened to him
when the story of starting the alumni group got published in the Star
Tribune up here. (Come on, Steve, tell the story!)
Two more things about Minnesota/Nebraska:
- Nebraska is supposed to have negotiated with Minnesota to be the first
team to play in Minnesotas new stadium, whenever that may be. It was
supposed to have been decided this year, but due to the Vikings Love
Boat
scandal, it'll be put off a year!
- Nebraska will be playing in Minnesota's Dairy Queen Classic baseball
tournament - first weekend of March. So all you Nebraskans in Minnesota,
I
expect y'all to be there screaming. You know I will!!!!
