The Journal Star has an article on the improved depth in the D-line. As Sean
said earlier, "If we want any kind of success, we need the line to be
semi-dominant". This is true of the D-line too.
In fact, the improvement here is one of the reasons I believe this team will
be significantly improved. A couple of quotes:
"I tried not to (get tired), but the fatigue did set in,," Adams said. "It
was pretty much just me and Le Kevin and Teamer. Each of us had our own
injuries. So I did get a little tired."
"Smith remembers one game where he played 63 snaps. He believes he played
nearly 70 snaps in another game. Ideally, Smith said he'd prefer to play
around 45 snaps" [comment: an offense sustaining drives will help keep these
play numbers down also]
With this kind of fatigue it is evident why it would be difficult to
maintain an effective pass rush. Also it would contribute to the late season
defensive problems.
Of course, preseason, everyone is a potential All-American. Talk is cheap,
can they do it on the field? I think so.
