[Husker] USA Today editorial

I was unable to access the article. I was thinking the other day how Osborne
might have felt about the latest tragedy if he had not done everything that
he did to help LP. Football was Osborne's job but I believe he truly looked
upon it as more than just winning. The actions of athletes lying about
steroids or TV evangelists saying dumb things brings about understandable
skepticism, but Oz never or seldom fit any mold the press tried to put on
him. I trust him more than most or all of the press. Call me a kool-aid
drinker on this matter. And yes, I don't think LP made that big of a
difference in 1995. I think his back up went to the pro bowl in recent
years.

There is an editorial in today's USA Today about the latest edition of
the Phillips saga at:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist/saraceno/2005-08-23-saraceno-ph
illips_x.htm

The author is Joe Saraceno and at the end of his column he writes: "They
didn't pay Osborne to hold Phillips' hands. They paid him to win. And so
he did. With Phillips, Osborne finally conquered the big one - twice.
Eight years after his last game, the congressman still looks like a big
winner to many constituents. No contest. And society still has Lawrence
Phillips on its hands."

I always felt the Phillips did not make that big of a contribution to
the 95 national championship.

Even though I do not agree with what Saraceno has to say, I suggest that
Husker fans need to see what is being written in a national publication
about Tom Osborne.
