Actually, a better discussion might be if Steve Pederson made a bigger
mistake in letting Monte Kiffin get away!  As I recall, Kiffin threw his hat
into the HC ring for NU's head coaching spot, but withdrew it when he was
told Bo would get a legitimate shot at the HC spot.  Hiring Kiffin made the
most sense of all options to me (short of getting TO back from just sitting
around the House in retirement).  Pelini's greatest shortcoming as HC was
his lack of experience at the college level.  Kiffin, already in his 60's
and a great Pelini supporter, would have groomed Pelini to take over as HC
after just a few years as assistant HC.

Oh, yeah, this general topic was beat to death a year ago BEFORE a 5-6
season.
