Before I post this and before people remind me I totally understand the general consensus is all sportswriters and members of the media are idiots. I don't necessarily subscribe to that but I am constantly reminded of that by posters and people in general. I think it is like any walk of life. You have your good people and your not so good people. With that said Ken Hambleton has a column in the Sunday Journal Star where people ask questions and he attempts to answer them.

Someone named A. W. wrote in with the question, "Did Callahan give Joe Dailey a raw deal?" I thought Hambleton's response was right on the money. Hambleton wrote, "No worse than Tom Osborne dealt Terry Luck, Tom Haase, or Brook Berringer or Frank Solich dealt Bobby Newcombe or Bob Devaney dealt Frank Patrick. Look, QB is not a position of popularity but a position of production. Van Brownson might have been the better all-around QB, but Jerry Tagge was the chosen one to lead NU to back-to-back national titles. Berringer got NU through the 1994 national title season but Tommie Frazier started the Orange Bowl, both QB's played well, and in 1995 Berringer was destined to the bench."

I know the argument is with Callahan people don't like how it was handled like Pederson with Solich. Sometimes, there just isn't a good way to fire someone or demote someone. I remember TO's, Frank's, and Devaney's situations and those weren't totally without issue among the fans either.
