While I understand and sympathize with Jay's struggle with
depression, I can't say I join him on this issue because the current
situation - - whatever it may be - - is essentially transitory.
The Callahan crew may be part of the Second Coming or may turn out a
complete flop, but it is they who are on a short leash, it is they
who will move on one way or another after a few years, certainly less
than a decade.
But the State of Nebraska and its University aren't going anywhere
anytime soon. Because of this Nebraskans, even as they are born and
grow older and die, don't change much either.
As I see it, being a Nebraskan is more an act of faith than an
accident of birth, and I choose faith in the Nebraska and Nebraskans
over a couple of guys holding temp jobs.
