[Husker] Notre Dame axes Willingham

Some folks on recruiting boards are wondering if this means we can pick up
another recruit or two (for example, David Nelson a 4star receiver who
committed to ND had NU in his final 3), but I would worry about the
opposite. We have a fairly full slate, and a bunch of targets for newly
hired coaches to go after, especially for passing offenses. Three big
programs, Florida, Notre Dame and Washington will all be hiring. UW really
worries me because whoever they hire will make Leon Jackson a big priority,
and I really like this kid. Have you seen the videos? WOW!

Being ranked number one in recruiting in November is like being up by a
touchdown or two with a lot of time left in the game -- in this case 2 1/2
months!

Another coaching carrousel thought. Butch Davis, who didn't succeed to
Cleveland Brown satisfaction, had an incredible college record at Miami.
Imagine for a moment that Pederson is patient and gives Solich one more
year. He either improves upon his 10-3 team and goes 11-2, 12-1 or even wins
a national title. All is well in Huskerville. Or (besides staying the same)
he gets worse, going 8-4 down to 6-5. Then Pederson fires him, getting less
flack (though still quite a bit) but a less divided Nebraska following. AND,
instead of Callahan, Butch Davis is available. Hey, maybe Callahan is
better. Maybe not. Just a thought about patience and what can happen.

Go Big Red. Or Hang in There, Big Red. Alan Siporin
