I take it you haven't been to Salt Lake City much.

For that matter, I wonder if you wouldn't find more Angelinos heading 
to the bars to watch Nebraska games than USC games.

While the outcome of the games may be a zero sum game, the financial
impact in terms of ticket sales and concessions plus the indirect 
economic impact of licensed merchandise sales, bar and restaurant
sales, etc. is not.  Has anybody seen a lot of Boise State t-shirts
on sale in New York?  

One of the underlying reasons for the O Street Gang's desire to improve 
the Huskers in 1961 was to pump up downtown Lincoln retail sales.
