Fwd: Re: [Husker] What did the losing season cost?

It took three coaches, much worse defeats than the Huskers
have suffered, save the Texas Tech debacle, and a change of
athletic directors to put the Sooners back on top. There
also was a span of 11 seasons before Stoops and company took
the MNC in the 12th. Solich and Gibbs suffered much the same
fate with Schellenberger being so odious that his one season
was too much even for Oklahoma. John Blake followed and
could recruit better than 99% of his peers. He simply was
not a head coach. If the Huskers follow the Sooners,
Callahan goes after this season but that is unlikely to
happen. So, does Nebraska see a repeat of Blake's tenure in
Norman over the next two or three years? Most Nebraska fans
hope that such an event does not occur and that the team
turns the corner next season with 2006 being a year to
remember as a glorious return to Husker power. If the next
two seasons are as dismal as 2004 I believe that it is the
consensus of Husker opinion that new coaches hired by a new
AD and perhaps a new chancellor will be a reality.
Whatever transpires we will see a new culture in the
Nebraska Football Program. This staff has little connection
to or affinity with the way things used to be. Only two
coaches have been part of the former Husker culture and they
are somewhat marginal in their influence, I suspect. As
fans, we hang on for the ride and back the Cornhuskers
because "we all stick together in all kinds of weather for
dear old Nebraska U" and the weather is rather stormy these
days.

over the Husker season and wishing Nebraska the best to
enable a decent rivalry game next season)

AMEN

DON'T LOSE THE FAITH BECAUSE THE HUSKERS WILL BE BACK.

Does anyone remember what Oklahoma's dismal record was when
the let Barry go? Let me remind you because we all whooped
and hollered and jumped for joy:

1989 7-4
1990 8-3
1991 9-3
1992 5-4-2
1993 9-3
1994 6-6
1995 5-5-1
1996 3-8
1997 4-8
1998 5-6
Now they are back and so too will be the Huskers.

You know...this is the only streak we fans have ANY
control over. Win or lose, I hope we keep doing our part.
