Good Morning All:
Well there has been quite an assortment of comments on the list this morning and I guess I'll add mine.
1. I did not have a good feeling about yesterday's game all week, I did not expect to win which is not a good feeling or indication for a Nebraska fan. It's getting pretty bad when, as a Nebraska fan, you don't go to a game expecting to win.
2. I do not have a good feeling about next season either. I actually think it could be worse than this season 3-8 or 4-7 (Rumor is we will open at Houston next year if that the case maybe we can just skip scheduling an 11th game so we don't set a record for number of losses in a season). I found it kind of interesting that at some point on yesterday's radio broadcast that Adrian stated, "Well the good thing about next year is we get all these teams at home". Referring to the fact that we get Pittsburgh, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Texas Tech and Iowa State at home. I don't know what's so good about that, we lost to all of them (except Pittsburgh but they've certainly improved) this year on the road and they are certainly all "loosable" next year even at home.
For those who think that the ticket situation will "ease" up next year I think you'll be disappointed. I think if you make a contribution of $500 or so you'll get a pair of season tickets (in the end zones somewhere). Remember just because things are down right now doesn't mean the donation policy goes away, it's still there and no one gets season tickets without a new (and continuing) donation. I do think though that if this doesn't turn around next year the ticket situation in 2006 will be very interesting, especially since the new seats in the north end zone will be available starting that season.
On WOWT (ch. 6 in Omaha) last night the lead story (as it was on all TV stations in Omaha) was the "Loosing season at NU". The story featured fans and their reaction as well as a considerable segment on a guy who has a website called "firesteve.com". He started this website last fall when Steve Pederson fired Frank Solich, activity on the website had slowed down by the start of the season but has picked up steam again in light of this season's poor record. The site features comments as well as clothing with the "Fire Steve" logo etc.
So for the first time since I was in kindergarten the football season ends in November and as I told the person sitting next to me (who is a donor of very substantial means) yesterday this is going to be a very long off season. His reply - I know, I thought the last two were long enough, this one's going to be an eternity.
One of Danny Nee's reason's for liking Nebraska so much was the fact that the football season always lasted until January around here and that "we could pretty much do what we want because no one was paying attention to us (the basketball program)". Well that's not the case this season so let's get over to the Devaney Center and follow the basketball team it should be an interesting season over there too. BTW, $99 season tickets (with no donation) are still available.
