I think inertia will keep the streak going for another season. Beyond that, market forces
such as the upcoming increase in stadium capacity may not bode well unless the Huskers are
back to winning 10 or more games again.
However, many of the current season ticket holders are those who supported the Huskers during
the lean pre-streak days (or their descendants, since at one time season tickets could be
passed on in wills). Perhaps this is an opportunity for the more far-sighted fans to move up
the seating chart.
The big problem is that the cost of doing so is significantly higher now than it was
45 years ago, even on an inflation-adjusted basis.
There have been a few times during the streak when the big pockets crowd stepped up to
the ticket window to keep the streak going. However, many of those were the captains
of industry in Lincoln, and most of their companies either no longer exist or are no longer
Nebraska-owned or Nebraska-based.
Who will step up to the ticket office window the next time?
Is 2005 an 11 or a 12 game year, and who will the Huskers be playing? According to
huskers.com the only non-conference game currently on the 2005 schedule is Pitt. It's
safe to assume no 'name' schools will be added at this late date.
