To answer your questions Neal, I dont think having
Horne on the team will hurt it in any way. It never
hurts to have a good athlete on your team even if he
is just warming the bench. And no I dont think he
lived up to his expectations but that wont lead me to
call him a waste of space on the bench as you did.
Maybe the expectations became to high with what he did
his freshmen year. Why come back your senior season to
warm the bench? Well because this is NU. He came here
to be a Husker and that is what he is. If everyone
that wasn't going to play here left we wouldn't have
very many players graduate from NU. I also think that
you proved my point about if Horne had had a better
career you would be singing a different tune on his
transfering. Out of 25 (when we reach that many)
scholarship players we recruit each year how many dont
live up to expectations and how many never see a great
deal of playing time? Should they just leave? What
about the walkons? How long should a player give his
career at NU to take off before he says its not going
to happen and transfers? Maybe for Horne it is just
the fact he gets to put on a Huskers jersey every week
that keeps him coming back. Maybe some of that kind of
pride should be instilled into some of the NU fans. As
it says on the stadium "Not the victory but the
action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the
glory."
