     But, in the late 60"s it was  obvious Devaney had the program going in 
the right direction and a new  excitement about the program was ushered in.  I 
can't speak for you but in  general I seriously doubt the last 30 years of NU 
football would have looked  nearly the same if NU was under .500 most years.  
Why did the stadium go  from roughly 35,000 to 77,000 plus and attendance 
quadrupled and sellouts  resulted with a waiting list?  Obviously, the team was 
winning, going to  bowl games, and developed a national recognition.  People 
wanted to be part  of it.  I doubt you would see 77,000 plus in the stadium with 
all the  tailgateing and frivolity if the Huskers lost more than they won and 
maybe only  went to one or two bowl games in the last 30 years.  With winning 
comes  interest in any program.
