Bob, who do you think has an easier time recruiting
players at NU. The football coach who took over a team
that has tradionally been a powerhouse or the
basketball coach who took over a team that tradionally
has not. I think Collier has a much harder time
convincing recruits that NU is committed to bball and
that they can become a great team. That is one reason
people are willing to give him more time. Another is
that Danny Nee had supposedly lost his team and there
seemed to be no discipline or direction on the team.
When a team walks out on a coach it is probably time
for a change so people accepted that. I dont think
there was a big split in the Husker Nation when Nee
was fired. However there has been with the football
change and we had seemed to put together a good young
staff who had just finished a 10-3 season. The players
were supporting the staff and we looked like we were
turning things around that is why they will not be so
willing to give Callahan the same leway they are
willing to give Collier. If NU had had 40 straight
winning seasons and NCAA apperences before Colliers
1st season and had had a big uproar over a coaching
change he would not be the head coach today with his
current coaching record.
