He's starting two freshmen so that they can get used to playing tough
teams before we enter conference play. In other words, preparing the team
to be more experienced by the time the Big 12 rolls around, and the Big 12
play is what really counts in basketball. He has juniors and seniors, Bob,
he's playing them but not starting them. Basketball isn't always about
putting the best players on the floor at all times - if he has two very
good freshmen, he can get them experience early and they'll be ready.

The pre-season play doesn't count for nearly as much as conference play.
It'd be nice to have road wins over Marquette, and UAB, and (upcoming
Tennessee, a team we mashed in Lincoln last year), but we need these two
freshmen to get experience early, and if it takes sacrificing some losses,
so be it. McCray can provide scoring, something we sorely need. Last
year's team had serious problems when our inside guys would get in foul
trouble. If Maric can get more experience inside, he can provide a
much-needed presence coming into the Big 12. If nothing else, he can
provide a big body and some much-needed minutes.

With regards to bitching about Callahan and Pedersen - not EVERY post
about football is about Callahan and Pedersen. There's football talk in
there as well. There is little to none about basketball. I suspect that is
because no one really pays much attention to basketball, but everyone who
posts is willing to bitch about it.

That is what I tire of, and why I don't bother posting much about
basketball.
