     Gary Fead nailed it in his post.  The logic is MONEY.  We gain a whole lot more money by playing a home game.  The over riding number one driving force in professional and big time college sports is money.  It is not what would be a better game or better competition.  Money is the number one reason we don't have some form in playoffs in Division I-A.  No one has shown conclusive proof to the college presidents that they would make more money from a playoff than they do the present bowl system.  If that could be shown we would have a  playoff system virtually over night.  Usually when decisions are made the logic is obvious if one follows the money trail.
