That place is amazing. The Astrodome still stands next to it and Reliant TOWERS over it. It looks 50% taller. (I think it is because the Astrodome was partially dug into the ground and Reliant is not). No expense was spared on the place - retractable roof, live grass indoors! Very futuristic. Houston also has the brand new Toyota center where the Rockets now play and the fairly new Minute Maid Park (also with retractable roof) where the Astros play. The All-Star game was held there is year. The city is developing an appetite for big sporting events. Huge new hotels have been built downtown and downtown is really starting to develop a critical mass of night life. The Superbowl here was a big success.

There was already a lot of talk in Houston about this (potential) game. I do think if would have been tough for the Huskers to come in here an win in the opener because it would have been a big opportunity for the Coug's to point to over the summer. It would have been a national telecast (Kirk, Lee and the Gameday boys) and quite a bit of exposure for the Huskers in Texas. The high school football players I know were planning to be there (just kids - no five star recruits).

This would have been fun for us Houstonians. Oh well, we'll kick the stuffing out of black bears from Maine and SP will be helping his boy look good. Hope the crowd can stay awake after paying their $45.
