The Independence Bowl 'dream' match-up betw Big XII and
MAC is unlikely. The Independence Bowl features a Big XII
team against an SEC team in normal circumstances. The SEC
relationship has existed since 1995, while the tie-in with
Big XII goes back to 1998.

Interestingly enough, and good bar-bet trivia, the SEC is
undefeated since tie-in started 1995:

 1995 LSU........ 45 ------ Mich St....... 26
 1996 Auburn..... 32 ------ Army.......... 29
 1997 LSU........ 27 ------ Notre Dame.... 09

 1998 Ole Miss... 35 ------ Tx Tech....... 18
 1999 Ole Miss... 27 ------ Okla ......... 25
 2000 Miss St.... 43 ------ Texas A&M..... 41
 2001 Alabama.... 41 ------ Iowa St....... 13
 2002 Ole Miss... 27 ------ Big Red....... 23
 2003 Arkansas... 27 ------ Mizzou........ 14

 2004 Iowa St.... versus Miami-Ohio....

This year's match-up features a MAC team since the SEC
was not able to fill it's conference allotments for
all bowl games due to South Carolina/Clemson debacle.

Of course, the Big XII was unable to qualify enough
teams for all of it's alotted bowls...and will not
be sending a team to the Champs (Tangerine) or Fort
Worth Bowl.

Enjoy the Bowls!

P.S. Mike...if you want to tailgate at the Ohio-Northwestern game
next fall, let me know. The game will be more entertaining than the
Big Red-Maine showdown. oooh...aaah...

Looking at the MAC's bowl ties, what are the chances
of Ohio and Nebraska getting matched up in a bowl game
in a couple of years?

It looks like the Independence Bowl is the only
opportunity for a BXII-MAC matchup.
