I'd be bitter too if I went to ask the coach what I needed to do to get
more playing time or what I did and he would have the audacity to say "I
don't want to go into that". Plus, it is the norm to help the athlete
transferring to another school which Callahan has opted not to. I never
heard of Osborne/Solich ever doing this. Its fine if Callahan wants a my
way or the highway mentality but he seems to treat these 'kids' like
they're professional athletes. I find this wrong and we'll lose highly
touted recruits if this keeps up (not just Solich recruits can
transfer). That said I'll wait and see what will happen but Callahan
needs to start realizing he coaching the college and not pro level.

I couldn't agree with Jeff more... I watched Birkel on the news tonight,
and you could tell he was bitter... It is obvious from reading the list
this year that we all agree talent needs to be upgraded all the way
through the program... It is pretty obvious to me that Callahan means
business, and for Birkel to say thats all it's about football and not
having fun and that they did this or that in the NFL speaks volumes
about what we all saw on the field this year. A total lack of
dedication, playing with heart, and doing what was necessary to win.
This rant on TV tonight proved to me what we have seen all year, that
they were more about "having fun" and not working hard and I think we
all saw the results of that lack of dedication with our stellar record.
I think that sucess over the years has caused a lot of the Nebraska Kids
who have come here to think that all they have to do is show up and they
will win national championships. I think back to the Peters, Wistrom's,
as well!
as
Tommie, Ahman, et al, and it is obvious to me that those guys knew what
it took to win, and the dedication required to do so. I for one think
that we probaly need and will see more of a house cleaning to get the
program straight, and from a player personnell, if we have to go outside
the state to get players that want to win and achieve long term sucess,
not only in college, but also have a shot at the NFL then that's ok with
me. I am happy to know that as Berkel said, "Callahan means business"
and I'm sure Callahan knows that the best way to "have fun" on the field
and in practice, is to put in all the hard work and dedication it takes
to WIN!!! That's what will return the whole team to the "good old days"
where football is "FUN", not only for the players but also the fans who
watch and cheer for the team not matter what the outcome. As far as the
crack about Acedimic All American's, I am all for that, but It has
obviously been proven in the past that you can have both, s!
ucess on
and off the field by your players!!

Shocking that you would take this stance. A player wants to leave the
program because he isn't playing and amazingly rips the coach...what a
revelation.
I can't support this, but just from following your posts over the years
I would venture a guess that when the QB quit and transfered to Duke you
ripped him and not your beloved Coach Solich.
I guess it just depends what way you want to spin it...
