Here are some quick statistics which could show that the Huskers did improve some during the season.

In the first 7 games,
Opponents scored in the 4th quarter of all but one game
The Husker defense gave up an average of 11 points in the 1st half but more than 18 points in the 2nd half of each game.
The defense was getting worse in the second half.

The Huskers only scored in the 4th quarter twice.
The Huskers averaged more than 17 points in the 1st half and 11 points in the second half.
The offense was getting worse in the second half.

For the last 4 games of the season, however,

Opponents did not score in the 4th quarter.
Opponents averaged more than 16 points in the 1st half but less than 6 points in the 2nd half of each game.
This shows that the defense was making adjustments.

The Huskers scored in the 4th quarter of each game.
The Huskers averaged 6 points in the 1st half and more than 12 points in the 2nd half of each game.
Therefore, the Huskers were improving on offense in each game.

The majority of the Husker coaches did not coach in the Big XII before this year, and therefore were not familiar with their opponents. By the end of the season, they did a pretty good job of making adjustments for the 2nd half, however. Considering they were implementing new systems with players they had never seen before against teams they had never faced, I think they didn't do too bad.

Just a positive spin on the season.
