According to the LJS story, Gill expressly stated that both Callahan and 
Pederson tried to talk him out of leaving. Unless he lied or the LJS 
misquoted him, the decision to leave was his alone. Maybe he had made up his 
mind, but wasn't ready to reveal his decision.
