I'm sure the Recruitniks are seething about this
article, but all-in-all, it's a fairly balanced
article. Great high school players don't automatically
become great college players, just like great college
players don't become great pros.
That's not to say that you don't need talent. It's
more that you can't just go out there, sign a bunch of
high school stars, and put it on auto-pilot.
Also, I wouldn't assume that BC or Steve Pederson
don't get this; I would assume that they are focusing
on the major (some might say the only) positive from
year 1 of the new era. In the polarized Husker nation,
publicly acknowledging those problems probably only
provides legitimacy to their critics. But behind the
scenes, I really doubt they are oblivious to these
issues.
