And like many Nebraska high school coaches, his teams had a lot of
Power-I and option plays in his offense, too.

In fact, that's probably part of what really ticks a lot of Nebraskans
off about the change. Nebraska was unique, an island of rushing in
a sea of passing attacks. Was it a bit archaic? Perhaps so, but it
worked pretty well most years, including the best 5 year record any coach
has put up since OU in the 50's. (Bob Stoops may elipse Osborne's mark
in another few years, but I doubt he'll approach OU's consecutive winning
record.)

It was part of the character, the psyche of Nebraskans. Yes, it was
ridiculed by the national media, and at times disdained by other
coaches. But a lot of those coaches left Lincoln with their tails
dragging.

If you changed the uniforms on the 2004 Huskers to some random set
of colors, could you tell them apart from most other 1-A programs?
I doubt it.

It's like if we elected a new Governor and the first thing he decided
to do was tear down that archaic and inefficient Capitol building.
