The smokes that connect to HAI are low voltage smokes detectors and do meet the National codes as long as they are listed ul Smokes compatible with HAI. <div><br></div><div>The code says the primary power source must be 120vac with battery backup. This is true with HAI and any other security system with smoke detectors.</div>
<div><br></div><div>The primary power source is 120VAC to power the HAI system, and HAI drops this down to 12v to the smokes. The HAI is battery backed up, and will satisfy the code requirements. UL (typically commercial installs) require the system to operate on battery for 24 hours and then be able to go through one full cycle of an alarm before draining the battery.</div>

I've got an 8-year-old Omni II and still love it. At the time it was installed, our electrician did not connect our house smoke detectors to it, because according to code, the smoke detectors have to be on the 120V house power, whereas (according to him) the Omni could only work with low-voltage detectors. Was he right? At this point I would like to install new smoke detectors and have them monitored by the Omni. What are my options? Do I need to have two parallel sets of smokes - one on AC power and one for the alarm panel to monitor? What particular smoke detectors do people recommend?<div>
