Hi Brent.

I interface the Omni to an Jandy Aqualink (using serial ascii
protocol) over one of the Omni's serial ports. There are many added
features provided by that controller (ie salt controller, valve
automation, solar levels, pool lite sync, temps, etc), as well as
visual displays on the pool controller, that would be very difficult
(if even possible and more costly) to be provided by the Omni by
itself. Interfacing the 2 lets the Omni can turn on/off all the
features of the Aqualink (thus controlling the pool) though any of the
interfaces. I let the Aqualink worry about freeze protection and do
the normal pool schedules through that controller, since that is very
clean. You can set flags though programming, based on input from the
Aqualink to the Omni, that can allow the Omni to show pool status
using one of the HA Web programs or the Phone interface.

The only problem with doing this is that you have to use the message
array of the Omni to hold all the messages that can be sent/received by
the Aqualink. That array may be undersized to hold *all* the
messages that can be sent/received by the Aqualink if you use audio
messaging and/or interface to other controllers for controlling other
things such as sending IR messaging that also require message strings.

Hope this helps.
