From Dan at BarclaySoftware.com Thu Jun 6 21:18:16 2013 From: Dan at BarclaySoftware.com (Dan Barclay) Date: Thu, 6 Jun 2013 21:18:16 -0500 Subject: [Hai-users] Q: HLC Note 1.34, Aux Switch control wire size Message-ID: <012901ce6325$45491400$cfdb3c00$@BarclaySoftware.com> I posted some questions over on the Worthington HAI discussion forum but haven't seen a response to them there. Maybe it's because they are too HAI specific. Here's one: In the HLC notes at kb.homeauto.com there is a comment at the bottom of note number 1.34 stating "Note: The control wire must be of the same gauge as the wiring being used for the master switch." What does this mean? It appears that the 37A00-1 leads only carry signals to the master switch, but this note makes me question that. I can't imagine why they would put load on those wires. Can anybody explain that? I have both 600v instrument wire and traveler available, I'd like to use the instrument wire and I can't see an issue with it... until I came across the above note. Message-ID: I'm installing a bunch (60 or 70 devices) of UPB (HLC). I also have a small handful (maybe 8 or 10) X10 wall wart switches used for Christmas "things" and occasional control of ad hoc equipment. It's in a large house, so I need repeaters for both. Specifically, I'd like to install (Worthington descriptors) LEVHCA03-10E is a Levition HCA02 alongside a LSAHL392 is a HAI 39A00-2. All of them are controlled with the OPII so control commands will unlikely occur in the same power cycles, though UPB status reports will occur "whenever". What's gonna happen when I put these side by side? I seem to recall that the UPB is spread spectrum but I don't know where I heard that. If so it's probably OK but I'd kind of like to know what to expect from someone who has actually tried it. Anybody with experience doing this? Thoughts? In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Should be fine. In the early days of UPB I ran UPB in a Compose (X-10 variation) installation. I would do simultaneous All On/Off commands with both technologies and they both behaved correctly. I can't say I have tried it recently but 8 years ago it worked fine. UPB transmits on half of the sign wave. X-10 only transmits at the zero crossing and they both are at different frequencies. Message-ID: Thanks for the X10+UPB info Tom. I also received a reply from Doug Ringler indicating he had been successful with X10+UPB+ZWave as well. A few weeks ago I also got very good info on CFL/LED/Incandescent dimming, some of it by direct email. Something for the group administrator to think about: I've had to remember for years that for a reply to go to the entire group you have to "Reply All" otherwise only a personal reply goes to the poster address. A number of times I post a question and get a "private" reply that others in the list may have benefitted from. I'm fairly certain this is by accident because I've done it myself! In that time I've also belonged to other lists which send mail "on behalf of" in which "Reply" goes back to the list. You can still send private mail if you want, but the "default" is to send a reply back to the list. I'm not sure how it's done, but it may be helpful if the Admin could adjust this list so that "Reply" goes back to the whole list. Thanks, Dan -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
