[Hai-users] Modem Connection for PCACCESS

I have an HAI 1503 V2 (SN1480), along with a couple of 1102 expansion
panels, that I installed in 1992. Today, all remains working superbly.
Really great stuff! I think the company's vibrancy today is a result, in
part, of having produced great quality products for some time.

I've been accessing my 1503 using using PCACCESS (1104 version 1.2B), using
an old computer and external modem. I recently retired this PC and have now
moved PCACCESS over to my desk computer - a 'modern' (at the time) 3 GHz P4
Windows PC running XP with 2 GB of RAM. I'm using a PCI internal modem that
supports all of the standards, including BELL 103 (in case my 1503 indeed
communicates at 300 baud).

With PCACCESS being a DOS program, it has always run just fine from the
Windows command line.

My challenge is I have a lot of difficulty getting a status for Zones and I
can't get it for Units. I can establish the phone connection to the 1503
without any problem, and I can do a Show / Status without difficulty. But
as soon as I try to get a Zone or Unit status, I get an error message
("Failure Getting Status"). Once in a while I can get the Zone status
(including Zone status for the 1102 expansion panels), but never the Unit
status (I do have a number of PESM units).

Oddly, I can do a full Upload To PC (including Setup, Programs, Names and
Events) without any difficulty (takes a while though). I haven't tried
doing a Download From PC for fear of it not being successful.

My guess is my current modem is too 'modern' for my 1992 (week 26)
manufactured 1503 unit. And thus perhaps I need to make some adjustments in
my Modem Initialization string.

My current modem initialization string is: AT&FX0S0=0S10=150&C1&D2.

I think my fundamental question is, to access an old 1503 using today's
modems, are there additional or different modem initialization parameters I
should use, and/or adjustments needed to the modem's PC settings (flow
control, compression, max baud, etc.)?

And overall, does anyone still have experience 'talking' to 1503 V2 models
using PCACCESS that might know some important 'tricks' using modern day
modems?

Many thanks!

Best regards,

Bill
