[Hai-users] advice on smoke detector monitoring

I've got an 8-year-old Omni II and still love it.  At the time it was
installed, our electrician did not connect our house smoke detectors to it,
because according to code, the smoke detectors have to be on the 120V house
power, whereas (according to him) the Omni could only work with low-voltage
detectors.  Was he right?  At this point I would like to install new smoke
detectors and have them monitored by the Omni.  What are my options?  Do I
need to have two parallel sets of smokes - one on AC power and one for the
alarm panel to monitor?  What particular smoke detectors do people
recommend?
