It's on the storage area door, which is the least used of our three
garage overhead doors, so the 'heavy use' factor seems unlikely.
The last time I accessed that door, a day or two ago, it registered both
changes.
(We have all 3 garage overhead doors programmed to play a message when
they go up, that one also plays one when it's closed.
This summer it seemed more likely to fail in really hot weather and in
the afternoon (it's a west-facing door). I did try tapping the switch
(screwed to the cement floor) with a rubber mallet a few times in
early November, that seemed to help for a while.
I may try playing with a stronger magnet to see if that makes any
difference.
I suppose I could try a different zone, but since we got 4 inches of
snow yesterday, anything I need to do outside is waiting until warmer
and drier weather at this point. :-)
