[Hai-users] RC-80 T-Stat Lightning Protection

I have a user that has a detached garage with a RC-80 T-Stat.

 

He wants to connect it to his OPII system in the house.

 

Since it will be using overhead wiring I am concerned about lightning
protection for the T-Stat wiring.

 

I have considered opto-isolators but they are expensive so I was wondering
if anyone has another solution that may have worked for them.
